It’s here – It’s officially spring!! The season of rejuvenation and fresh beginnings.
Time to spice up our wardrobes and introduce some sassy colour after all the darker shades we’ve been embracing over the fall and winter months. I’d like you to meet LMCM Collection ‘Sweet & Sour’ – a traditional shaped hat that is getting it’s own rejuvenation in the fashion scene spotlight…
The ‘Boater’ style hat, aka ‘Canotier’ was popular in the 1880’s, continuing into the early 1900’s. It was first introduced as a men’s summer hat and was the transition from traditional winter toppers into something lighter to accommodate the warmer seasons.
So here’s where it became fashionable in women’s wear and mostly with thanks to this incredible visionary… Originally known as somewhat of a ‘tomboy’ donning tailored suits and boater hats of her own creation – Gabrielle Chanel began her infamous career as a milliner in 1909 after women commissioned her to modernize their style. Coco Chanel encouraged this once masculine style hat to it’s prominence ‘en vogue’ and it continues to be one of Chanel’s classic iconic pieces. This little shape has a lot of history!
Traditionally created in neutral tones fabricated from sinnet straw and adorned with a simple solid or striped grosgrain ribbon. Fast forward to 2015, and ‘the boater’ is once again trending as one of spring/summer’s best accessories for our wardrobe… Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Why not shake up this sassy style with some bold colours and beautiful fabrics!?
‘Sweet & Sour’ is created from chartreuse parasisal straw, bias cut silk dupioni ribbon trimmings and vintage brooch. This piece is the perfect Canotier to put a spring step into this beautiful season.
